Cindy is disappointed with their first Beverly Hills Christmas-namely, the lack of snow. She invites Brandon and Brenda's friends over for dinner, but they all have their own plans. However, they all wind up there anyway. Dylan visits his father in prison, and Brandon visits Emily Valentine in the hospital. Brenda meets a homeless man dressed as Santa Claus at the boutique where she works. She brings him home, but her father is suspicious, particularly when "Santa" starts handing out expensive gifts. He then has a change of heart after hearing the old man's story: his children are grown and he was widowed a year earlier. Meanwhile Steve goes to Albuquerque to seek out his birth mother. He meets his biological grandfather, Al Brown, who reveals his mother Karen died in a car accident several years prior.

As two guardian angels named Clarence and Miriam watch over the gang, this Christmas promises to be one of heartbreak. Nikki moves back to San Francisco, leaving Brandon behind, while Andrea's boyfriend breaks up with her by letter. The Brenda/Dylan/Kelly love triangle comes to a head when the girls order Dylan to choose between them by New Years. David decides to graduate early. Everything leads to Christmas Eve, where they are inexplicably saved from a bus accident that would have meant certain death while on their way to a party for underprivileged kids. |

A strange woman named Suzanne Steele shows up on Dylan's doorstep with her 12 year old daughter Erica, claiming to have ties to Dylan's deceased father. They ask if they can stay with Dylan, having lost everything in a flood. Finally, a frustrated David gives Donna the cold shoulder, eventually breaking up with her on Christmas.

An FBI agent is dispatched to Dylan's door on Christmas Day, asking for money in exchange for information. Donna's mother tests Ray's feelings for Donna by offering him a check for $10,000 to stop seeing her.

Steve accidentally pledges $1000 an hour for an AIDS benefit at the club, and tries to keep costs down by sponsoring an old fraternity brother and his wife, who win the contest. Steve also attracts a lot of advertisers due to his generosity and gets a lot of money for the Beverly Beat.
