On a rainy Thanksgiving, Brandon again runs into the homeless veteran that he tried to help the previous summer, Jack Canner. He invites him to Thanksgiving dinner at his house. David, Donna, Kelly, and Andrea join the Walsh family for the festivities. However, Jim gets into an argument with Jack over politics and orders him to leave, but has a change of heart when Jack helps fix the leaking roof. Meanwhile, Dylan hosts his father on a Thanksgiving furlough, but is furious when he invites over a woman. Finally, Steve goes with his mother to Santa Barbara to shoot a TV show, while also figuring out a way to inform his mother that he's been expelled from school for the break-in. When Samantha finds out, she sticks up for him, and his punishment is commuted from expulsion to detention for the rest of the semester.

He decides to spend Thanksgiving dinner with her as they rekindle their romance. Back in Los Angeles, Steve, Donna, and their respective fraternity and sorority houses serve dinner at a halfway house, where Steve steps up to save a 14 year old runaway from John Sears' advances. Dylan has dinner at the Walshes instead of at Kelly's house, angering Kelly. And Andrea, while at Dan's house for Thanksgiving, again runs into bartender Jesse Vasquez and gives him her address.

Meanwhile, Nat asks the gang to help Willie the cook build a house for Habitat for Humanity. They eat Thanksgiving dinner in the unfinished house. Kelly and Mark end up in a motel with food poisoning after their planned Thanksgiving trip goes awry. Finally, Steve faces plagiarism charges after Brandon's paper with his name on it is recognized by Professor Randall.

But when David clues Kelly in on Val's abuse, the two finally call a truce before Valerie leaves Beverly Hills for Buffalo. Elsewhere, Noah is terrified he is the cause of a drunken hit-and-run, David sleeps with a listener to his radio show, only to learn she is just 17, and one more surprise is sprung on the gang's Thanksgiving dinner when Dylan McKay returns after three years.

She decides to hold off on telling Gina, fearing she will spoil Gina's memories of her late stepfather.
